In a Denver abode’s spacious gathering space—which encompasses dining room, library, living room, and sitting area—designer Nadia Watts relies on her client’s vast art collection to create a cohesive dialogue between the adjoining interiors. “These special pieces have moved with them over the years to multiple homes and the placement of the art was planned during the drawing phase,” says the local designer. For instance, the exact dimensions of the wall behind the dining table were determined to accommodate the Bob Knox painting that hangs there. Beyond it, an inherited painting is framed by books to create “a wonderful library presence,” adds Watts. “The scale of the art, the color, and the textures of the furnishings create a compelling environment in which you want to sit and stay for a while.”
At the seventh-annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach, 23 architects and designers reimagined an airy abode in West Palm Beach’s SoSo neighborhood. This year’s impressive designer roster includes five AD PRO Directory design studios—Ariel Okin Interiors, Donna Mondi Interior Design, Nadia Watts Interior Design, Redmond Aldrich Design, and Sara Story Design—each of whom took distinctively imaginative approaches. The show house, which benefits the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club and Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County, is open through March 17.

For designer Nadia Watts, art gallery vibes balance otherwise neutral furnishings.
Rotate your art as if you’re in a gallery. You’ll be amazed at the difference a simple tweak can make. Changing the location of your art can dictate a novel approach to transforming the rest of your living room space. Denver-based Nadia Watts of Nadia Watts Design brought in a grouping of artwork from other rooms to curate a new aesthetic by pulling colors from the paintings into the pillows. “This created a new relationship in the room that was not there,” she says.
Swapping pillow covers is a simple way to shift living room design. Nadia Watts likes to “freshen up” a room by changing all the printed throw pillows to bold and solid colors. Color blocking sends a message that the room is polished and no-nonsense. Patterns, on the other hand, create playfulness and exude a certain personality.
